Do you love to read and do you review those books? You’re a great candidate for my POSSE ARC review team! As a POSSE member, I ask that you give honest reviews in return for reading my new books. And, when I say honest reviews, I mean that. Of course, I want reviews that will attract new readers, but sometimes a book doesn’t resonate. Not all POSSE reviews are five stars.
That said, here are my suggestions for the types of reviews that I feel are the most helpful to other readers (As I said, not all apply to every book):
- How do you feel about the characters? Did you relate to a character that stood out from the others? How did their circumstances affect you? Do you still think about them days after you finish the book? What else can you say about the characters?
- How did you feel while you were reading, sad/crying or smiling/laughing out loud? Did you stay up all night to finish it because it was exciting or did you lose interest? Would you tell your friends about it? What else could you say about your reading experience?
- I feel that giving a blow-by-blow of the plot isn’t the most helpful way to review a book, though you may certainly include plot elements in your comments. Using your feelings and thoughts about the characters and your reading experience makes the review personal, helps the prospective reader connect with the book in advance, and increases the chance that they will want to read the book themselves.
I hope that writing reviews with your own personal touch is something you’d like to do. As a POSSE member you will post reviews on Amazon, Goodreads and Bookbub. If you don’t have an account, please open one.
